Christmas Light Installation in New Jersey

Garden State Exterior Solutions, LLC · Licensed & insured · Based in Ocean County, serving all of New Jersey

What you actually get

A lot of “Christmas light guys” show up with a staple gun and a box of big-box lights. That is not what this is. Here is what is included in every seasonal install we do:

Why homeowners stop doing it themselves

Emergency rooms see a spike in ladder falls every single holiday season, and most of them are homeowners on a roof in the cold with a strand of lights in one hand. On a two-story New Jersey colonial with a steep pitch and wet leaves in the gutter, it is not a Saturday project — it is a real risk.

The other reason is the result. A professional install looks like the house was designed that way: even bulb spacing, one continuous line, clean corners, no orange extension cord running across the front lawn. That is the part neighbors notice.

When to book (this is the part people get wrong)

Holiday lighting is a scheduling business, not a lighting business. There are only about five good installation weekends between Halloween and Thanksgiving, and every crew in the state is working them.

Installs start in late October and run through the week before Thanksgiving. We can install and leave them off until you want them on — most people do exactly that.

Seasonal lights or a permanent system?

If you plan to be in your house more than about three more years, do the math on a permanent LED track system before you commit to seasonal. Permanent is one install, no takedown, and it does Halloween, the Fourth of July and everyday warm-white curb appeal too. Seasonal is billed every year, forever.

We install both and we will tell you straight which one fits your house and how long you plan to stay. Full comparison here: permanent outdoor lighting vs. seasonal string lights.

Where we work

We are based in Toms River and install across New Jersey, but "statewide" means something specific rather than a map with the whole state coloured in.

Ocean and Monmouth are our core route — standard scheduling, standard pricing. Middlesex, Somerset, Morris, Bergen and Burlington are run as scheduled block weeks, which keeps the pricing sane on a one-to-two-hour drive but means you should book earlier and there is a higher job minimum. Anywhere else, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we can serve you well.

Full breakdown: where we install and how far we travel. And if you are far from us, ask about permanent lighting first — one install instead of three trips a year changes the math completely.

What Christmas light installation costs in New Jersey

Every house is different, but this is the honest range we quote in. Pricing is driven by roof height, roof pitch, how many linear feet you want lit, and whether you own the lights already.

Single-story ranch, front roofline only$400 – $700
Two-story colonial, front roofline + entry$700 – $1,400
Full wrap, peaks, columns, trees and shrubs$1,500 – $3,000+
Permanent LED track system (one-time)Quoted per linear foot

Seasonal pricing includes commercial-grade lights, professional install, in-season service calls, takedown in January, and storage until next year. You are not buying the lights — we bring them, we take them back.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Christmas light installation cost in New Jersey?

Most single-story homes with the front roofline lit run about $400 to $700. A typical two-story colonial with the roofline and entry runs about $700 to $1,400, and full installs with peaks, columns, trees and shrubs run $1,500 and up. Price is driven by roof height, roof pitch and total linear feet. Our seasonal pricing includes the lights themselves, install, in-season service, takedown and storage.

When should I book Christmas light installation?

August through October is the right window. There are only about five prime installation weekends between Halloween and Thanksgiving, and they fill up. Booking early gets you better pricing and your pick of install dates. Installs typically begin in late October and run through the week before Thanksgiving.

Do I have to buy the lights?

No. Our seasonal installs include commercial-grade LED lights that we supply, cut to fit your roofline, install, service during the season, remove in January and store until next year. If you already own lights you love, we can hang those instead, though we cannot warranty bulbs we did not supply.

Do you take the lights down?

Yes, takedown is included and scheduled in January. We remove everything, pack it and store it, so nothing sits in your garage. Storage is included with a seasonal install.

Will the clips damage my roof or gutters?

No. We use purpose-made clips that attach to the shingle edge, gutter lip or fascia. Nothing is stapled, nailed or screwed into your roof or trim, which is one of the most common ways homeowners damage a roofline hanging their own lights.

What happens if a section of lights goes out in December?

Call or text us and we come back out. In-season service calls are included with a seasonal install, because a dark section in the middle of December is the whole reason people hire this out.

Do you install Christmas lights on commercial buildings?

Yes. We do storefronts, offices, HOAs, restaurants and apartment communities across New Jersey. Commercial jobs get quoted on site and we can work around your business hours.
